In less than 24hrs of releasing this race information, I received many positive feedback about the new formation of the Trail Adventure format. Thank you. The Trail Adventure format is to make entry easier to AAC, however, we will have a quota to the number of teams.

2011 Ace Adventure Challenge

Hi Folks,

Hope you have had a good start to 2011. Most of you must have enjoyed the race at SAFRA AVventura that kick start the racing calendar for 2011.

We are pleased to announce that the next Ace Adventure Challenge (AAC) has been scheduled for Sat, 17 September 2011. This will be the 7th run for AAC.

So what's new? Apart from maintaining the tradition of a 3-men team formation, we are introducing a new category for 2-men team. We are still in the works of things, please bear with us.

We look forward to your continual support. More race information will be posted once we have concrete information.

Meanwhile, keep running, biking and continue your adventure habits!

We DID race into the dark!

Bravo to all race participants and race volunteers! AACVI has successfully completed.

The heat took many of us by surprised as we were all expecting showers in the afternoon. Nevertheless, no rain means race will proceed as planned. As the race theme suggests Sunset Adventure, teams literally race from day till night!

The fastest teams took about 5hrs while some teams were being cut-off at earlier Check Points. All teams return to the end point in good spirit. Give us a little more time, we will post up the full results once we gathered the score sheets from all Check Points. Here's the results of the top 3 teams of each category.

Teams gathered to practice rope skills

It was a bright sunny Saturday. We've got a rainbow above us !

The rope ascending and abseiling session went pretty well. But due to some teams who turned up unexpectedly, we had a bit of waiting time there.

Thanks to all for being there and being so patient with everything. Hope you had a good time working out the processes with your teammates and revisit the skills that you have shelved up for a long time.

Abseil: Racers get to practice abseil with a rope-man (aka a belay person on the ground). The rope-man will hold on to the abseil rope during an abseil, in the event that the abseiler slip or let go of the rope, the rope-man will assist to arrest the fall from the ground. During the race, racers' team members will take on the role of a rope-man.

Rope ascend: This is probably one of the most physically demanding rope stations. Racers need to practice the right technique to ascend efficiently. Team members are require to work closely. While one member is ascending, the other members have to hold tight on the rope from the ground. The rope tension held by members on the ground will ease the sliding of the ascenders. (I had a hard time demonstrating rope ascending, it is indeed a hard skill :p)

Getting to the Venue - Ngee Ann Poly Adventure Tower

The Adventure Tower is located at Kismis Ave (Toh Yi Dr, via Jalan Jurong Kechil)
The access of the Adventure Tower is via the Ngee Ann Poly Staff Apartment blocks (not the main building at Clementi Rd)
If you are driving, please park at the multi-storey car park next to Blk 6 & 7 at Toh Yi Drive (nearest)
Please note that there is no approval given to park inside the school premises
For those who are coming via the public transport like public bus, you can alight near the Bukit Timah Food Centre, walk pass the HDB blocks as indicated by the RED arrow line in the attached Map.
If you are taking a taxi or a drop-off, you can access via Jalan Jurong Kechil/Toh Yi Dr to Kismiss as indicated by the YELLOW arrow line in the attached Map
Access via the school's main building at Clementi Road is possible. You have to walk to the sports complex/swimming pool, cross the overhead bridge (over PIE) to get to the Adventure Tower.
The Adventure Park has a prominent climbing wall that is 15m high, it is difficult to miss it.

Women Power

We have retrieved an old race photo of the Women's Teams. We had a 4 women's teams raced in AAC2 (2004), that was the highest records for AAC. As our registration opens today, the first team registration is from a Women's Team, among others are the mixed teams (boys, where are you??). We have received closed to 10 teams entry at noon.

In this photo, you can spot many familiar faces, they climb, trek, bike, and even finishers of multiple ultra distance races. These are active sports ladies who stay true to the sport they love.

Perhaps, we should organise an adventure race just for the Women!

Youth Category

YOUTH

the period between childhood and adult age;

the state or quality of being young ...

When we organised our first Ace Adventure Challenge back in 2003, we had a category catered to the Youth. Adventure Racing was new to most people back then, and we did have a handful of Youth Teams who brave their hearts to race. Nevertheless, only 2 of the 5 registered teams finished the race, barely met the cut-off time. It was tough for these youth back then as most had not been exposed to long distance multi-sports races. Eventually, we moved the young athletes to race in the Open categories as it was too small a group to form a category within AAC.

Subsequent years, there were more races catered to the young athletes and by now, we see senior racers coaching school teams to compete in local and overseas races where they build very strong physical and mental toughness, and learn more about team work and self-discipline.

In view of the popularity of adventure racing among our youth, we are bringing back the Youth Category so that these young athletes have a chance to be competitive among their peers and win some prizes to motivate themselves.

So here you go, young boys and girls! You will race at the same level with the seniors with no concession! I bet this is what you really want too!

Youth Team (mixed)
